In short

Where things stand for 2027

  • As of mid-2026, the proposed 5-year tax-free digital nomad visa has no official launch date, pricing or final requirements.
  • Remote workers currently typically need sponsorship from an Indonesian entity or a suitable visa such as a KITAS.
  • Influencers and content creators earning income need a proper work visa (KITAS), not a tourist visa.
  • Start your application three to six months before you plan to travel.
  • Spouses and children can often join on a family KITAS linked to your work visa.
01

The proposed nomad visa

Still a proposal as of mid-2026. It is expected to target high-earning remote workers and may include income thresholds and proof of employment outside Indonesia — official announcements will set the criteria.

It aims to compete with offerings in Thailand and Malaysia. Until it launches, monitor official Indonesian immigration channels.

02

Stricter rules for creators

Commercial activity without the correct visa can lead to fines, deportation and blacklisting. Any income-generating content creation needs a proper work visa (KITAS).

03

What an application service covers

Usually document preparation, submission to immigration and liaison with sponsors. Some services add guidance on local regulations, bank account setup and relocation support — always confirm inclusions.

See all questions
When should I apply for a Bali work visa?

Ideally three to six months before your intended travel date. Processing times vary and unforeseen delays are not uncommon, so applying early keeps you on track.

How do I apply?

Through a reputable visa agent or directly with an Indonesian sponsor. Expect to submit passport copies, a CV, educational certificates and possibly a sponsorship letter — accurate and complete.

Can I bring my family?

Often, yes. Spouses and children can be included on a family KITAS linked to your work visa, with additional documents and fees for each family member.

What if my application is rejected?

Understand the specific reasons given by immigration. You may be able to appeal, resubmit with corrected information or explore another visa category. Consult your visa agent or an immigration lawyer.

How does Bali compare with other Southeast Asian work visas?

Current KITAS visas are comparable in complexity and cost to similar long-stay work permits in the region. The proposed nomad visa aims to be competitive with Thailand and Malaysia.

Is Bali safe for foreign workers?

Bali is generally considered safe and welcoming. As with any relocation, take standard precautions and learn local customs — community integration often improves both safety and experience.
